Do you ever wonder what happen in London while most people are asleep? This is one of the questions that prompted author, artist and designer Henry Chebaane to write ‘Kingdom United : clean up London’ – his latest graphic novel.

KINGDOM UNITED – clean up London is a thriller blending family drama, fast action, and speculative fiction with occasional violence, pop culture and humour. The action takes place in familiar parts of East and West London.

Take a walk at dawn in the streets of London, when most people are still asleep or just waking up. Chances are you will see people already and work or finishing a night shift. These are hospitality staff, transport workers, security guards, warehouse handlers, delivery drivers and…cleaners.
When was the last time you looked at a street cleaner in the eyes and said ‘Hello’ or even just nod or smile?

Keeping streets clean is as honourable as any other jobs and, one could argue, one of the most useful to the greatest number of people. London, like most cities in the industrialised world, is kept 24/7 relatively clean, safe and functioning thanks to thousands of people working in plain sight yet ignored by most passers by. Public spaces cleaning is a privilege that many citizens take for granted most of the time, yet complain about or simply ignore, or even abuse by dumping, littering and fly-tipping.

So what if…some of these cleaners were doing an even greater service to their community than simply removing rubbish from streets, parks and pavements? What could they do with the rigth training and tool for the job?

What if… they would train in martial arts, using their cleaning tools to sweep and scrape criminals from the streets? Cleaning the streets litteraly and figuratively? This is the premise of KINGDOM UNITED – Clean up London.

But, before this can happen…Neeta Rao, our protagonist, has some dirty laundry to sort out within her family. Long-simmering issues erupt one after another, testing Neeta’s resolve and loyalties in ways she would have never suspected.
Meanwhile, the streets of London are descending into chaos, the prisons are full, the authorities are in meltdown, shady property development are turning the city into dangerous building sites, and gangs are terrorising the streets of the capital.
When the violence comes hitting home, Neeta must choose between staying a dutiful daughter and law-abiding citizen or turn the family business into a secret vigilante organisation to save her neighbourhood.
